Beenachchhandam Sangeet Mahavidyalaya (BSMV) is a premier institution dedicated to promoting cultural heritage, talent recognition, and research in the field of Indian classical music and dance. Our institution actively engages with local artists and traditions, fostering the rich cultural heritage of the Barak Valley. History

Beenachchhandam Sangeet Mahavidyalaya has completed its 38 years of glorious service in the field of music and culture. During this period, the Mahavidyalaya has expanded to a considerable extent and secured an exalted position in the arena of development of classical and other forms of music in this remote part of our country. The Mahavidyalaya is affiliated with Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow, Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, West Bengal and Bengal Music College, West Bengal. It holds regular classes of Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Dance, Fine Arts and others in specified courses from Pre-Primary to Nipun in four different centres located at Dhakaipatty, Silchar; Saradamoni Lane (College Road), Silchar; Narshingpur and Dholai. The Mahavidyalaya by continuous endeavour over the past years has developed a distinct ‘Gharana’ of its own in the field of Kathak Dance in its Lucknow Form. This institution has produced several talented artists who are now well established in various places across the country Our institute specializes in Kathak, we do Kathak-based dance dramas (from epics, etc.) & do performance-baseds on Tagore & Nazrul’s writing. We are also acquainted with popular Bengali folk artists of North East India. We also promote the Bengali folk culture of Barak Valley. This institution also includes teaching in other subjects – Painting, Vocal (Classical), Nazrul Geeti, Tabla, Rabindra Nritya, Embroidery and Cutting.
