Empowering Communities Through Culture: A Model Workshop by BSMV, Assam
Beenachchhandam Sangeet Mahavidyalaya (BSMV), in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam and the District Administration of Cachar, successfully conducted a 10-day Summer Vacation Workshop in 2023 across two key schools in Silchar – Netaji Vidya Bhawan Girls’ H.S. School and Narsing H.S. School. This initiative was not only a resounding success in engaging students, educators, and artists but also a shining example of how cultural programs can be a transformative tool for education, empowerment, and social development.
The Vision: Culture as a Tool for Social Impact
With a NITI Aayog Unique ID – AS/2023/0347538, BSMV has positioned itself as more than a performing arts school. It is a cultural NGO working to preserve heritage, uplift underprivileged artists, and empower communities through arts-based interventions.
The 2023 workshop is a fine example of this vision in action. Designed to introduce Assam’s folk culture and improve students’ physical and mental well-being, it brought together over 100 young participants from diverse backgrounds in Silchar’s Silchar LAC constituency.
